Clear the floor and let the sound through

Rated 5 de 5 de par Fantastic Sound These are the speakers I've wanted since I was 18 years old. The sound is incredible. It's like hearing some of the music for the first time. Could not be happier with our purchase.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Sounds great JBL doesn't let down I bought a pair of the studio 290s about a month ago. At first i thought that the 200 dollars off the regular price that they were just not very good on sound quality. I was wrong.... these thing are just like you would expect from JBL. I have these along with the Audio 180s for my back channel on my surround sound..... the sound from both sets is like being in the show or at a concert. These will make the neighbors jealous. If you can afford these get them.

The specs mention Bi-Wire Capabilities. Can the speakers be setup in a Bi-Amp configuration? I have read about Bi-Wiring and it looks does not really make any audible difference, nor any additional control apart from maybe varying the ohms to the amp....

Posée par: Snoopy
Bi-wiring allows two benefits. You can separate the load of mids and highs to one amplifier and lows to another. Or you can increase the output from a single amplifier by increasing the load by reducing the resistance (ohms). For example, bi-wiring a pair of 8 ohm speakers to a single amp will be as if you are running four 8 ohm speakers from that amp, making the resistance on the amp down to 4 ohms. Most amps provide about 50% more power when this is done, but it is more load (work) on the amp.

JBL Studio 290 vs JBL Studio 590? Which is best for 50% Home Theater 50% Music in a complete 7.1 surround system? ~ peace

Posée par: HTFan
Thank you for showing interest in our products. The JBL STUDIO 290 and JBL STUDIO 590 are both ideal for music and movie systems. It's just that the STUDIO 590 together with the rest of  Studio 5 Series speakers, were acoustically designed by renowned JBL chief engineer Greg Timbers. The loudspeaker has a combination of a 25mm (1") HF compression driver and Bi-Radial® horn with dual 200mm (8") cast-frame Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) woofers in order to deliver powerful and accurate or lifelike performance. The materials used in the STUDIO 590 was able to compensate for not having a specific driver for midrange that the STUDIO 290 has.

Is the Studio 290 a better alternative than a Studio L880? Which Harman Kardon AVR is recommended for two Studio 290? Thanks for your answers

Posée par: Carlos Mesa
The main difference between the two is the STUDIO 290 speaker can handle up to 225 watts while the STUDIO L880 can handle up to 200 watts. This means that any receiver with a power output of 225 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speakers. With that said, STUDIO L880 has a lesser wattage handling than the STUDIO 290, making the STUDIO 290 a more logical choice.

Match well with Denon AVR-S930H receiver? 930H specs are (8 ohm, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive, 90W); (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive, 125W); (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive, 185W). Don't want one to over or under power the other if it creates bad sound.

Posée par: JiQ55
Hi! Thank you for your inquiry. Looking at the specs you have provided, there should be no issues using the Studio 290.

freq range is 38hz-22khz is this +-3db or more ? sensitivity is 91 db is it 2,83v/1m or 1w/1m and is it free space or half space ? I definitely need accurate values to check that they are capable of 40hz @ 110db @ 1m with how much required power ?

hi there, I'm considering buying a pair of the studio 290s along with an Onkyo TX-NR555 amp: All Channels 130 W/Ch (6 Ω, 1 kHz, 1% THD, 1 Channel Driven, IEC) 160 W/Ch (6 Ω, 1 kHz, 10% THD, 1 Channel Driven, JEITA) Would that work well?

Posée par: nostradaanos
Hi, Thank you for your question. Yes, the Studio 290 will work with your Onkyo receiver, but the speakers are more powerful than what your receiver has of power. To get more out of the speakers in general, upgrading your receiver with one that is more powerful will give you full benefits of the speaker. In a 5.1 setup, I have the Studio 290's for my fronts, the 235C for center and the 230' for the rears. I have been having a hard time deciding where to set the individual crossovers for all them. I know rooms vary, but, any recommendation? Thanks

Posée par: PSAV1500
This is a tough one. There are several schools of thought on this. Many feel that you should set each speaker at whatever the natural roll-off of each speaker is. So, for example, the STUDIO 290 rolls off at 38Hz, so you would set your crossover at 40Hz to let the sub take over where the speaker leaves off. Others, myself included, feel that there is no reason to make the receiver amplifier or the speaker work so hard to reproduce the really low frequencies, not if you have a sub there to take over and do all of that extra work. So, with this thinking, you would set each speaker to 80Hz (a great starting point), as long as their natural roll-off is lower than 80Hz. If you happen to have a speaker that rolls off at 100Hz, then set that one for 100Hz, and so on.
